Groups

“With all things and in all things, we are relatives.”

— Sioux proverb

Group therapy involves a number of people in a similar situation or with the same goal getting together on a regular, time-limited basis in order to find community and healing in togetherness.

Groups can provide a safe setting to explore issues related to both individual and social environments. The environment and nature of groups can foster emotional healing in a way that is different from other forms of therapy, be it individual, couple or family.

In groups you not only receive guidance, feedback and support from the therapist(s) who are leading the group, but from others who find themselves struggling with similar things.

Do you struggle with body image issues? Are you finding it hard to find peace with the body you have now? Together with my nutritionist colleague we facilitate this group as a space to begin exploring your relationship with your body.

Through didactic and psychoeducational portions of the group you will learn more about social justice, diet culture, trauma and how those things impact the body.

During process time you get to interact with other members and begin creating a community around the body liberation work.

You may have suspected it for a while, or perhaps the idea that you are autistic and/or ADHD is a more recent development.

It can be challenging to go through the processing of claiming your neurotype and making meaning of not only what it means for you now, but what it may have meant historically too.

You don’t have to go through this process alone. Join others who are in a similar place and build a community, get support and begin processing what neurodivergence means for you.

GROUP TYPE & FORMAT

This is a closed support group that is based on member’s participation and sharing through discussion and process-oriented prompts. Alongside that there is a psychoeducational component.

For the first half hour of our time together we go over education materials, with each week having a different theme that explores an aspect of neurodivergence, from neurodiversity paradigm to masking to grief.

For the next hour of our time together we facilitate discussion that ranges from a supportive chat to processing past experiences of being a neurodivergent person in a world built for neurotypicality. Each week’s prompts are different and are in line with that week’s theme.

While it is inevitable that tips sharing happens in a group like this, this is not a skills building group.

This group’s goal is to foster community and help group members feel less alone in their journey of self-understanding and self-discovery.
